FPI Spokesman Questioned by Bali Police over Alleged Defamation

FPI Spokesman Questioned by Bali Police over Alleged Defamation
MONDAY, 30 JANUARY, 2017 | 14:48 WIB

TEMPO.COJakarta - Bali Police question the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) spokesman, Munarman, over alleged defamation against Bali’s traditional security officers, locally known as pecalang. The allegation was based on a video uploaded to YouTube.
Investigators had earlier questioned other witnesses that include, among others, linguists, criminal expert witnesses, information and technology experts, sociologist and personnel of Jakarta-based media company.
Police had also quizzed plaintiff Zet Hasan who filed a report of alleged defamation committed by Munarman for accusing the pecalangs throwing objects at residential houses and blocking Muslims from performing the Friday prayer, as seen on a video footage during the FPI spokesman’s visit to Kompas office building in Jakarta, which was uploaded to YouTube on June 17 last year. Munarman is charged under Law No. 11/2008 on Informatics and Electronic Transactions, which carries a five-year jail term. ANTARA

Police to Question FPI Leaders on Wednesday Over Alleged Plot to Topple Gov'ti

Jakarta. The Jakarta Police said on Sunday (29/01) they will question two leaders of the Islamic Defenders Front, or FPI, in an investigation over an alleged plot against the government.

Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Raden Prabowo Argo Yuwono said Rizieq Shihab and Munarman, along with chairman of the Guardians of the Indonesian Ulema Council's Fatwas (GNPF-MUI) Bachtiar Nasir, will be questioned as witnesses on Wednesday.

The investigation will be focused on the men's participation in a number of meetings at Bung Karno University in Central Jakarta, during which a scheme had reportedly been hatched to overthrow the government, Argo said.

"We will dig deeper into the meetings to see whether they were invited, who invited them, which topics were discussed, who was in attendance, where are the minutes, and so on," Argo told reporters in Jakarta.

In the same case, police have already questioned political observer Ichsanuddin Noorsy, Confederation of Indonesian Worker's Unions (KSPI) chairman Said Iqbal and KSPI secretary general M. Rusdi.

A group of 11 high-profile activists have been named suspects for allegedly plotting against President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and his administration and planning to hijack the peaceful prayer rally in Jakarta on Dec. 2.

Among them were also rock star Ahmad Dhani, former military generals Kivlan Zein and Adityawarman, theater director and activist Ratna Sarumpaet, former President Suharto loyalist Virza Husein, politician Eko Suryo and activists Alvinindra Al Fariz and Rachmawati Sukarnoputri – the youngest daughter of former President Sukarno.

Bali ATMs hit by thieves, tens of millions pulled out as perps tap into machines' programming

Within just a 24-hour time period, two ATMs in Bali were reportedly burglarized using identical methods on Thursday.
Tens of millions of rupiah were taken out of the ATMs, tapping into the machines' programming, so police suspect that the same thief hit both machines and that the thief is part of a professional ATM theft syndicate.

Both ATMs were reportedly located in gas stations. One on Jl. Hayam Wuruk, East Denpasar, and the other on Jl. By Pass I Gusti Ngurah Rai, South Kuta.
At both sites, the perpetrator damaged the lock and hinge to open the ATM. Once open, the perp had access to the machine’s data and could easily remove cash, according to reports.
“Not just any perpetrator could do this (access the program data). The people who acted in these two places are professionals,” Tribun Bali quoted an unidentified police source as saying on Sunday.
From the Hayam Wuruk ATM, Rp 82 million was removed from the machine, while from the one in Nusa Dua, Rp 14 million was taken, Tribun reported.
Denpasar Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit Commissioner Habonaran Nainggolan confirmed the case to Tribun and said police are investigating the theft.
ATMs are unfortunately a common target for theft in Bali, whether it be by burglary or card skimming.

Seminyak gets a new Miami inspired dining experience with Bikini (Bali)

Seminyak, Bali has a new hotspot in it’s endless line of options. The recently opened Bikini, a luxe, architecturally designed space, blends the urban style of a New York warehouse with a decadent Miami beach party feel. With up to 120 seats in both its bar and restaurant areas, it looks to be a very welcome and distinctive addition to Seminyak’s famously up-market scene.
The interiors o
f the venue were the brainchild of Melbourne-based Travis Walton Architecture and creative agency 21-19 to bring the vision of sultry sophistication to life.
A graphic fuchsia feature wall, created by Melbourne based artist, Ash Keating, greets diners on arrival. Keating chose to use paint-filled fire extinguishers, strategically sprayed from floor to ceiling to create the visually compelling effect.
The kitchen at Bikini is designed to produce intricate, but still accessible, menu items. All fermenting, pickling, dehydrating and curing is done in house alongside the breads, ice creams, sorbets and syrups.
The menu was designed by Creative Culinary Director Jethro Vincent, who sought to bring his skills from creating degustations at Whare Kea Lodge in New Zealand. Chef Kevin Chung, with his 15+ years of experience in five-star establishments like Sydney’s Rockpool and most recently, The W Retreat & Spa, Bali (also in Seminyak), teamed up with Vincent to develop the menu so that food would not be categorised in a standard manner. Instead, they chose to open themselves up to “creative and whimsical gourmet creations”.
“The menu is a fusion of what’s in season, what’s on trend and what I love to cook. We have broken it down to five groups and diners will be taken on a journey from mouthfuls to large plates with inventive cocktails to match” said Vincent.
“Straight up we have a delicate raw section with highlights such as the New Zealand Venison tartare with ginger and chill. There’s also a tuna and prawn aguachile – a Mexican-style ceviche.”
Bikini’s drinks menu was developed by award-winning mixologist Max Hart, who hails from Melbourne. Hart has previously been with Vue De Monde, Lui Bar, Eau De Vie Melbourne and Boilermaker House. Hart’s cocktails for Bikini are a twist on classics, using modern techniques (olive oil fat washes, house-made syrups and infused gins) with inspiration from the region’s local produce.
Bikini was brought to fruition by Aussie expat Adam McAsey and his 8 Degree Projects team. “Throughout my time doing business in Bali and travelling the globe for inspiration, the concept behind Bikini was born. The restaurant has been in the making for over two years now and I’m absolutely pumped to bring such a unique dining experience to the island,” said McAsey. It joins several other Seminyak hotspots like Sisterfields, BO$$MAN Burgersand Expat Coffee Roasters, also from 8 Degree Projects.

JAKARTA: Immigration officers at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali have stopped an Australian from entering the resort island based on an Interpol report alleging that the man, identified only as DNW, is a paedophile.
“DNW was searched by Interpol. [There is] an indication that he was involved in a paedophile case in a place somewhere. It could be that he was a fugitive of Interpol or the Australian Federal Police,” immigration office spokesman Agung Sampurno told kompas.com on Saturday.
Agung said DNW arrived at the airport on Friday on an AirAsia flight from Perth. He was deported back to Perth on Saturday at about 7am, local time.
He said his office had earlier received notice from Australian authorities on the planned arrival of DNW.
“We managed to detect the man shortly after he arrived here and deported him,” he added.
According to data from the immigration directorate, as many as 652 foreigners were prevented from entering Bali through the airport last year. – The Jakarta Post/Asia News Network

Roger Federer vs Rafael Nadal: at the Australian Open final at 4:30 Pm

Editor's comments:
Lawrence winning Bali Seniors Tournament

Anybody who loves tennis as much I do should watch today's grand slam final in Melbourne Australia starting in approximately 2 hours.

Rafael Nadal Versus Roger Federer is a dream finals that may never have happened again.

With Roger already 35 years old it's hard to say if he will ever reach a Another grand slam
final, let alone one with Nadal as his opponent.

These two have
arguably been the greatest opponents of modern history. Watching them tonight will be watching history in the making.

Although my heart hopes that Federer wins my common sense and my observations of Nadal throughout the open, especially playing newcomer Canadian Ranovic tells me that Nadal will probably win , but not by much.

I would not be surprised they go a full sets over 4 to 5 hours.

So get lots of snacks and drinks have some good friends around that like watching tennis, settle down to watch will probably be one of the greatest dispatches of water times.

Roger Federer vs Rafael Nadal: Where the Australian Open final will be won and lost

Former British No 1 Mark Petchey tells Simon Briggs what he thinks the crucial factors will be in Saturday's Australian Open final.

Physicality

Yes, Rafael Nadal has the shorter turnaround. Nadal played his five-hour semi-final on Friday night, while Roger Federer finished his own three-hour match more than 24 hours earlier. But then Nadal’s whole approach to tennis has always been punishing, both to his opponents and himself. “Rafa has practised and played at that intensity all his life,” says Mark Petchey, the former British No 1 who is in Melbourne commentating for Eurosport.
“It’s not unusual for him. Coming into this event, he looked lighter and fitter, and at the end of Friday’s match he seemed fine. His recovery might be an unknown, but my hunch is that he’ll pull up OK.” Nadal’s strategy
It is so much easier for Nadal, because he knows what’s worked in the past. He feels comfortable in this rivalry. All he has to do is target the Federer backhand. “Rafa sticks to the 80-20 rule in this match-up,” says Petchey, “just hitting maybe one ball in five to the forehand, and that’s enough to keep Roger honest.”

Federer’s strategy

Federer does not want to get dragged into long, attritional points. At the same time, though, he cannot just come in on any ball, because Nadal passes so well off both wings, and can fire it at your shoelaces as an alternative. “The best approach shot to hit when you’re coming forward tends to be an inside-out forehand,” says Petchey, “driving Rafa wide into the tramlines on his own forehand side. It’s a misconception that Rafa’s backhand is the better side to attack, especially when you’re approaching.
“Yes, it’s a flatter shot, but at last year’s Olympics his average backhand speed was higher than his forehand speed in most of his matches.”
Federer’s key shot: Serve
The serve has to be on fire. That was how Federer beat Andy Murray in the 2015 Wimbledon semi-final, which is the last time he scored a big win over another member of the Big Four. He landed 76 per cent of first serves that day and a plaintive Murray complained that “it was frustrating because I couldn’t get a racket on a lot of the returns”. If Federer sets up points with big serves, and gets short returns, he can gather momentum and start ticking through service games quickly.

Nadal’s key shot: Forehand

During the off-season, Nadal’s new coaching assistant Carlos Moya suggested that he should try playing with more weight in the head of his racket. Lead tape was duly applied, and the impact has been dramatic. At the US Open, Nadal’s average forehand speed was 74mph and the average spin 3031rpm. In this event, the equivalent numbers are 77mph and 3273rpm.
“The forehand down the line went missing for Rafa during 2015,” says Petchey. “But the extra spin has brought it back, and that makes the court a couple of yards wider for his opponents. They can’t just cheat towards the cross-court side all the time, they have to cover the line too.”
Nadal
Nadal's forehand could decide the match

The conditions

The Australian Open courts have been played on faster courts this year. Yet this is not necessarily an advantage for Federer, as many have assumed. “The courts help both players,” said Petchey. “Yes, Roger gets extra value on his serve, but Rafa’s ball is on to you faster, and it’s already a nightmare to deal at the best of times. The interesting thing is what tournament directors are going to do after this. Will they speed up their own courts to help Rafa and Roger out?”
Federer
Federer has the ability to serve anyone off the court

The big picture

The only worry is that the final might struggle to live up to all the hype.
But this fortnight has already been a triumph for tennis. If Federer and Nadal deliver a classic, its legendary status will be sealed. “I see all these expectations of the final as a hat-tip to everything these two have given to us since 2004,” says Petchey. “There have been some golden eras of tennis. But I’ve watched every one of the Rafa-Roger matches and commentated on a lot of them. In 20 years, we’ll be looking back and saying ‘Were these guys for real?’

US airports on front line as Donald Trump's travel ban causes chaos and protests.

Editor's comments - It is a sad day for world travel because of Donald Trumps  totally poorly conceived travel ban which keeps mother from children, husbands from wives and causes chaos at airports throughout the world, which will affect travel and hurt everyone in the travel business, especially in Bali.

Trump is a loose cannon who does not think things through.

Why is he banning five countries that had nothing to do with 9/11 attack, which he cites as the reason why is putting the band into effect.

Following trumps logic. Maybe Canada, my country should ban all Americans since most of the terrorist attack in America the last 10 years were caused by those with American passports.

Why is he restricting travel from people from Iraq?

America went in there on a false premise of Sadam having weapons of mass distraction and totally destroyed the country killing hundreds of thousands of civilians in the following years. Now he won't let any of Iraq's citizens to even come to the U.S. to visit their loved ones.

Regarding Iran. I thought America was trying to become friendly with Iran. Why are they banning their citizens?

I only wish that America had the parliamentary system because tthey would call for a vote of no-confidence any day now that would be the end for him.

As it is, America is stuck with him the next four years unless he commits a crime and forced to resign, be impeached or assassinated.

We learn from Clinton that you can do a lot of very bad things without be impeached. So most likely this guy is in power for the next four years.

Congratulations America, you really screwed up this time. And you will suffer the consequences.

Donald Trump’s executive order to close America’s borders to travellers from some Muslim-majority countries caused chaos on Saturday, as multiple people who had flown to the US were held at major airports while others were barred from boarding flights or were pulled off planes overseas.

Analysis Donald Trump's first week: carnage, both real and imagined
What started with an ominous inauguration speech has ended with executive orders on everything from immigration to banning refugees and reigniting the fossil fuel industry. What does it mean for his presidency?

By Saturday evening, there were 11 people in detention at New York City’s John F Kennedy airport who had arrived from Iraq and other barred countries, according to two Democratic members of Congress, Jerry Nadler and Nydia Velazquez, who joined protests at the airport.

According to representatives of immigration and civil rights group who spoke to reporters on a group call, other travellers were being held in Atlanta, Houston and Detroit.

Pre-approved refugees, students and workers holding visas and residency green cards were barred from flights to the US, according to reports emerging from Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Cairo and other cities across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. By evening in New York, hundreds of protesters had massed at Kennedy airport, and demonstrators gathered at at least 10 other major airports, including Dulles, LAX, San Francisco, Denver and Philadelphia.

As confusion reigned at airports, universities and businesses across the US, a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security confirmed that people with green cards, making them legal permanent US residents, were included in the ban.

Trump’s executive order, signed on Friday, temporarily banned refugees from around the world, blocked Syrian refugees indefinitely and halted entry for 90 days for people from seven predominantly Muslim countries: Iraq, Syria, Iran, Yemen, Sudan, Libya and Somalia.

At the White House on Saturday, Trump expressed no doubt about his orders, saying: “It’s not a Muslim ban, but we were totally prepared. It’s working out very nicely. You see it at the airports, you see it all over.”

A state department spokesman confirmed to the Guardian that travellers who have dual nationality between a country on the list and another non-US country, for instance UK-Iraqi or Canadian-Somali citizenship, are barred from entering the US for 90 days. The order provides for giving priority to religious minorities in those Muslim countries; Trump has said the US will in future prioritise Christian refugees.

In New York City, two Iraqi refugees were detained at JFK airport. One, Hameed Khalid Darweesh, had worked in Iraq for the US government for 10 years. The other, Haider Sameer Abdulkhaleq Alshawi, was coming to the US to join his wife who had worked for a US contractor.

Analysis What you need to know about Trump's travel ban
The immediate consequences have been dire for everyone including valid visa holders and legal residents, and lawsuits have already begun – but the orders’ vagueness leaves much up in the air
Congressman Nadler told the Guardian that anyone who was detained at an airport should “not sign anything and ask for a lawyer”.

“Donald Trump should revoke the executive order,” he said. “It’s unconstitutional on the grounds of religious discrimination.”

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and other groups filed a lawsuit challenging the detention of the two Iraqi men, and Darweesh was allowed to enter the US on Saturday afternoon. He spoke before protesters outside terminal 4 at JFK airport, who shouted: “No hate, no war, refugees are welcome here.”

Darweesh told the Guardian he felt no ill will toward airport authorities. “They are good people,” he said. “They are just doing their duty.”

New York governor Andrew Cuomo ordered state transit officials and state attorneys to “explore all legal options to assist anyone detained at New York airports, and ensure that their rights are protected”. By 7pm local time, thousands of people had gathered at Kennedy airport, chanting “let them in”, and taxi drivers had staged a stoppage there in solidarity.

“I never thought I’d see the day when refugees, who have fled war-torn countries in search of a better life, would be turned away at our doorstep,” Cuomo said in a statement. “We are a nation of bridges, not walls, and a great many of us still believe in the words ‘give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses.’”

Becca Heller, executive director of the International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP), said “dozens remain detained” around the US amid confusion between local authorities, federal agencies, attorneys and the White House. “Nobody knows at this point.”

Mark Doss, an attorney for IRAP, told the New York Times that a border agent directed him to the White House with his complaint: “Mr President, call Mr Trump.”

Thanu Yakupitiyage, a spokeswoman for the New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC), told the Guardian: “This is absolutely dehumanizing, I am livid, it’s outrageous. We are sending someone to JFK airport to speak to customs and border control about this, people are in a state of shock.”

FacebookTwitterPinterest Trump’s refugee ban provokes criticism at home and abroad

Overseas, airport officials appeared to err on the side of blocking passengers from listed countries. It was reported, for example, that seven people, being escorted by officials from the United Nations refugee agency, were prevented from boarding a flight from Egypt to New York after authorities in Cairo contacted their counterparts at JFK.Air Canada had reportedly advised people from the seven countries concerned not to board flights to the US, whether or not they held a green card.

Melanie Nezer, vice-president of HIAS, a US organization that helps to resettle refugees who had passed through the difficult US vetting process, said 2,000 people scheduled to arrive next week were now stranded overseas.

Mana Yegani, an immigration lawyer in Houston, said she had heard of several people with Iranian passports who were barred from US-bound flights leaving Amsterdam and Frankfurt. A number of other passengers were removed by security personnel just before take-off from the European cities.

“The agents said specifically that they had word from the US that those passengers would not be allowed to travel,” Yegani said.

Is Trump's 'extreme vetting' immigration order unconstitutional?

Yegani had also been passed details of a Sudanese woman, a Stanford University PhD student with a US green card, who flew into New York at 11pm on Friday and was detained and interrogated until about 5am on Saturday, when she was released.

“The checked her social media accounts, went through her phone, asked her about her politics, it was very intimidating,” Yegani said. “This really undermines core American values and the US constitution. I would not be surprised if the legal challenges to this end up at the supreme court.”

Masih Alinejad, an Iranian journalist living in exile in the US, said Trump’s orders threatened to strip people from their families and homes.

“The Islamic Republic has built a wall around many exiled journalists like us,” she said. “We neither have the right to return to Iran, nor do we enjoy the privilege of seeing our parents.”

Alinejad said that the order now bars her from her son, a university student in the UK. “Trump has built a wall between me and my son. We are both in limbo. He cannot come and see me and nor can I go to the UK to visit him,” she said.

“If I were to go and visit him, I would be deprived of the right to come back to the United States. It would be the end of my life in the United States.”

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (Cair) will file its own lawsuit against the order on Monday, arguing that it violates the constitution’s guarantee for religion and due process.

Yakupitiyage, of the NYIC, said the order was a step toward a more “isolationist and cruel” United States. “We will be doing whatever we can with our legal partners to push back on this. It’s religious discrimination and this will not make America safer.”

She stressed that many refugees and managed to pass through the arduous, 18 to 24-month vetting system that was in place before the orders.

“Many have waited years,” she said.

Perfect. Liked · It was beautiful and comfortable. The private pool and big open space to relax were a real bonus. The house keeper came every day to clean up and do our washing which was wonderful. It’s quiet and secluded but close to the middle of Sanur so very convenient. ____________________________________________________ Deanaus Australia Reviewed: 4 July 2022 Emerald Villas never disappoints Liked · Emerald is sensational for the money.
