KARANGASEM, NETRALNEWS.COM - Head of Volcano Mitigation Division of Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) Gede Suantika said emission of gray steam (solfatara) on the crater of Mount Agung (Gunung Agung) is due to the reflection of light in the morning.
"I affirm the color of smoke coming out of Mount Agung is still white and not yet gray," said Gede Suantika when met at the Observation Post of Mount Agung, Karangasem, Bali, Saturday (10/07/2017).
He said Mount Agung, which is at an altitude of 3,142 meters above sea level, has not yet issued volcanic ash.
"We will continue to monitor and until now there has been no change in steam color," he said.
Until now, the status of Mount Agung is still at Warning level or level IV. PVMBG still provides information to the community so as not to climb the mountain and enter vulnerable zones.
"We urge [people] not to enter the zone, because the Mount Agung is still critical. I hope the people and tourists do not get into this warning radius," he said. Meanwhile, Head of Eastern Volcano Mitigation Division Devy Kamil Syahbana said the smoke coming out of the crater of Mount Agung is still dominant in white.
Devy explained that the earthquake activity of Mount Agung has not decreased yet, as recorded on Friday (10/06) seismic activity happened up to 700 more with details of volcanic earthquake occurring 601 times, shallow volcanic quake 350 times, local tectonic quake 72 times and deep tectonic quake twice.
